Thoughts are just thoughts. They are not necessarily true or helpful - they are just thoughts. This means we do not have to blindly follow every thought. When we are being mindful we see the thought arising and we have a choice to follow or not. If it is a good thought, follow it. If it is an unhelpful thought, let it go. But we can only do this when we are present in the here and now. If our mind is in the past or the future we will find ourselves following every thought, without realising it.
